To Shorten the Path

I believe the stories of Ancient Erin are the spiritual treasure, soulblood and heritage of the Irish people. For many of us, wealth is still measured more in what way we choose to live and in what manner we journey through this life.

Oral tradition tells us the ancient Celts spent the first third of an evening in eating, drinking and conversation. The third part was drifting between pale slumber and colorful dreams. The second part? Ah ... that was to be spent in storytelling.

There is an old tale, perhaps being thousands of years in the telling. Two people set off on a journey. At first the travel is difficult, but eventually the one helps the other to understand that people should take turns telling stories to lighten the burden of this earthly journey. To help "shorten the road", as old time Irish storytellers would say.

To me, a road is a cancerous blacktopped scar on the health of the land made by machines, for machines. A path ... now there's the way folks make when they are wise enough to follow in the footsteps of those heroes and heroines who have gone before us and blazed a trail into the magic ....

In all humility, I ask each of you ... let me shorten the path.
